How much PPC agencies charge in the UK — and how the fee models compare
There is no published price list for PPC management in the UK — most agencies never show a number at all. What does exist is a small set of fee models: a flat monthly fee, a percentage of your ad spend, or a hybrid of the two, and each one rewards different behaviour. Here is how the models compare, why the "average UK fee" figures you will read online cannot be trusted, and where to find what we charge.
The three fee models UK agencies use
Google Ads agency pricing and pay per click management fees follow the same three structures whatever the platform: a flat monthly fee, a percentage of spend, or a hybrid of the two. Google Ads agency price and pay per click management pricing both come down to one of these three shapes — the difference between quotes is usually which one you're being offered, not what it includes.
| Model | How it works | What it rewards | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flat monthly fee | A fixed management fee regardless of spend | Predictability | Fees that never get re-scoped as the account grows — the agency earns the same whether it scales you or not |
| Percentage of spend | The fee tracks your media budget | The agency shares your appetite to grow | The incentive to recommend higher budgets whether or not results justify them |
| Hybrid | A lower base fee plus a spend or performance element | Splitting risk between the two | Complexity — harder to compare quotes and forecast cost |
The same three models are the menu if you are pricing your own PPC management services, not just buying them — how much to charge for PPC management comes down to picking the incentive you can defend to a client.

Why there's no reliable UK fee benchmark
Nobody can tell you the "average" UK PPC management cost, because the market does not publish. When we crawled ten UK agency sites in our own market research, two published their pricing, one published it partially, and seven published nothing at all.
The consequence: every "typical UK agency fee" table you find online is built from self-reported surveys and unverifiable claims — there is no reliable UK fee benchmark, and a page that quotes one without a source is guessing. PPC management costs and PPC management price are real and knowable — but only per-quote, in writing, before you sign. That's the honest answer to how much do agencies charge for Google Ads: it depends, and anyone who gives you a single number without seeing your account is guessing too.
What a PPC management fee actually buys
A fee is only comparable when the scope behind it is. PPC services pricing — and PPC management services pricing — varies with scope more than it varies with agency size: two quotes for the "same" service can differ by multiples once you see what's actually included.
| Included? | What it is | Why it moves results |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Account build and restructure | Sets the ceiling on everything that follows |
| 2 | Search-term review and negative keywords | What you accidentally pay for without it |
| 3 | Landing pages | Often quoted separately — the largest scope gap between cheap and expensive quotes |
| 4 | Conversion tracking setup and checks | Broken tracking is a pattern we see in audits — costs look like they rise when measurement has simply stopped |
| 5 | Reporting against an agreed cost-per-lead target | The number that tells you whether the fee is working |
This scope is what a PPC management engagement covers — the fee question is really a scope question.
Management fees vs media spend: the two-line bill
The distinction most fee confusion hides: your total PPC marketing cost is two lines — media spend (paid by you, directly to Google, capped by your daily budget) and the management fee (paid to whoever runs the account). An agency Google Ads cost quote that blends the two is hiding one of them. That applies whether the quote is styled as a Google Ads agency cost or Google Ads agency fees — the two lines don't merge just because the invoice does.
Quotes for "AdWords management" price the same service — Google renamed AdWords to Google Ads in 2018, so AdWords price and Google Ads advertising cost quotes are one market, not two.
What the clicks themselves cost — pay-per-click advertising prices, Google pay-per-click costs, and how much PPC costs per month — is a separate question, answered in our guide to how much Google Ads costs in the UK.
Agencies, freelancers and in-house: how the costs differ
Freelancers generally charge less than agencies — lower overheads, usually a day rate or a smaller monthly retainer — but no reliable published UK rate benchmark exists for them either; rate surveys are self-selected and unverifiable. What you give up and gain is coverage, not just cost: the full decision lives at freelance Google Ads specialist vs agency.
In-house costs are a different shape entirely — salary, tools, recruitment risk and single-person dependency — compared properly at PPC agency vs in-house.
What freelancers earn is a jobs question; what they charge you is the buying question, and it is the one this section answers.
Six fee questions to ask before you sign
- 01. Flat or percentage — and what happens to the fee when spend rises?
- 02. Is there a setup fee, and what does it cover?
- 03. What is the minimum term, and what does either side have to do to end it?
- 04. Who owns the Google Ads account when you leave? (you should — a known industry trap)
- 05. Exactly what is in scope — landing pages and conversion tracking, or media management only?
- 06. What will be reported, and against what agreed cost per lead? For what a defensible lead cost looks like, see what a good cost per lead looks like in the UK.
These six sit inside a longer vetting list — how to choose a PPC agency.

Frequently asked questions
How much do PPC agencies charge in the UK?
There is no dependable published average: when we crawled ten UK agency sites in our own market research, seven published no pricing at all, so the "typical UK fee" figures circulating online are self-reported and unverifiable. What is consistent is the structure — a flat monthly fee, a percentage of your ad spend, or a hybrid, charged separately from the media spend you pay Google. The only fee you can rely on is one quoted in writing for your account; our published PPC management pricing is on one page you can check before anyone calls you.
What is a typical Google Ads management fee?
No reliable UK benchmark exists — most agencies keep their Google Ads management fees off their websites, and the surveys that claim an average are too small and self-selected to trust. The fee depends on spend, scope and complexity: whether landing pages, conversion tracking and reporting are included moves a quote far more than the agency's size does. Compare quotes on scope first, then on the fee model and what it rewards.
Is a percentage-of-spend fee better than a flat fee?
Neither is better by default — they reward different behaviour. A percentage of spend scales the agency's income with your budget, which aligns appetite for growth but can reward recommending higher spend whether or not results justify it; a flat fee is predictable but gives the agency the same income whether it scales you or not, and needs re-scoping as the account grows. The real test is whether the incentive matches yours, and whether the fee, scope and exit terms are quoted in writing before you sign.
How much does a Google Ads freelancer cost?
Freelancers generally charge less than agencies — lower overheads, typically a day rate or a smaller monthly retainer — but no reliable published UK rate benchmark exists for freelancers either; rate surveys are self-reported. The cost difference is real, and so is the coverage difference: one person carries the account, the tooling and the holiday cover. How to weigh that trade is covered in our freelance Google Ads specialist vs agency comparison.
